Scunthorpe Telegraph
Scunthorpe Telegraph commissioned The Creative Collective to help build stronger links between the newspaper and its local BME communities. Through outreach and partnership working with local agencies, a consultation meeting was held between local BME community members and the Telegraph’s management team. It focused on how news was made by the newspaper, advertising for local businesses and employment opportunities. As a result, a commitment was made to host future meetings, create an inclusive contacts database and develop new initiatives such as newsletter training for a local youth project.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Regional Media organisations

In the wake of high profile tragedies such as Damilola Taylor and Stephen Lawrence, to the success of the multicutural bid for London to host the 2012 Olympics, there is a growing need for all media organisations to develop stronger and meaningful links with BME communities.

This will lead to a more diverse pool of employees, create wider access to new and original stories and improved advertising opportunities. Diversity is just good business and inspires best practice.
